Why Copy Between Configs?

Maybe you want to have two slightly different configs available to use in different bands, different studios, or even on different pedalboards. But setting up a MIDI controller from scratch can take a long time - especially if you have a complex setup. You don't want to be taking the time to create a slightly different config from scratch.

Or perhaps you simply want to copy from a friend's BRIDGE setup - but only one bank.

Or maybe you keep a backup config and want to paste a backed-up bank over a bank that you've messed up.

These are all great ideas and you can copy between two configs in two clicks!

How to Copy Between Configs

First, open up two instances of the Pirate MIDI web editor. If you're using a browser tab, simply open a second tab. If you're using the offline downloaded version of the web app, you'll probably need to open a browser tab to open a second instance of the editor.

Side-by-side editor windows is the fastest way if you have a big enough screen. If not, switching tabs or alt-tab between windows is also fine!

Next, go to the bank or message, or switch that you want to copy. Click the copy button in the editor, switch to the other editor, and click the paste button where you want to paste the bank, message, or switch config. Done!

Caveats

You can only copy the same type of information to the same type in the second editor. Banks can only be pasted over another bank, switches over switches, and messages over messages - for obvious reasons.

BRIDGE6 and BRIDGE4 banks can be pasted between windows, but please note that when copying BRIDGE6 to BRIDGE4, switches 5 and 6 will, of course, disappear and not be transferred. When copying from BRIDGE4 to BRIDGE6, switches 5 and 6 will remain blank or keep the existing messages and settings that are already set.

If the editor isn't pasting for some reason, please make sure that the config files are from the same version of the web editor and BRIDGE firmware. With the release of BridgeOS 2.0 we updated our config file structure. If you have a backup of an old config, the editor should prompt you to convert the file to 2.0 format when you open the file from your computer.
